Pop Music on British Television 1955 - 1999

A series of thirty-minute concerts presented by TVS, the new ITV franchise covering the south of England, replacing the failing Southern Television. Each show was broadcast after the local news from 6.30 - 7.00 pm.

First up were Duran Duran, followed by Altered Images, then Depeche Mode, all live at live from the Chichester Festival Theatre, then moving to the TVS Theatre in Gillingham, Kent for Hazel O'Connor, Gillan, Haircut 100, The Stranglers and SLF.

There was just the one series and then it was gone. Several shows would be later picked up by Central Television in the Midlands.

The station’s next pop venture, DJ, wouldn’t be for another year, but it did give time for live bands on Saturday morning’s Number 73.
