Pop Music on British Television 1955 - 1999

Hosted by the show's namesake, the Radio One DJ played host to a panel of three pop acts who reviewed / trashed that week's releases or live shows. The pilot show was later extended with the view to a possible series.

The inability to turn the simplest thought into a basic meaningful sentence alluded many of the participants who on occasion would resort to bad language to cover up lack of interest in the subject matter. The show almost crossed into The Word territory when Sinead O'Connor started to bite her toenails during one show.

One act per week performed live, while a filmed insert featured a well-known pop act talking about the record that changed their life.

The show would be followed by Jo Whiley Moments, a ten minute edited version shown a few days later.

After the show finished in 2000 producer Martin Cunning would be behind The Cut a similar 2001 show featuring live music and chat.

Whiley hosted this show while also being on the roster of Top Of The Pops presenters.
