Sometime in April Jack Good, producer of Oh Boy! sends a memo around to all staff involved in the show, (Oh Boy! was) "the most imitated show on television. It is therefore of the utmost importance to both artists and production staff that everything to do with the show, especially the choice of numbers, becomes strictly confidential. Remember spies are everywhere - ours as well as theirs - and a source of leakage will not remain hidden for long."

TWW The TWW Jazz Club: Dig Dankworth 10.45 to 11.30pm (first in a planned series of four, but it was extended into September)

Among the plans that TWW have is to hire a special train to bring fans to the Cardiff studios. Assistant Programme Controller for TWW Michael Frostick told the Melody Maker "We hope to re-create something of the atmosphere of the Dankworth Club by throwing the studios open to jazz lovers to have the kids dancing, drinking coke and so on. I believe it will be the first attempt to screen a jazz programme without compromise or excuses."

During rehearsals guest Johnny Cash took exception to guitarist Joe Brown s playing style and was subsequently fired. When Cash returned two weeks  later he asked after Brown only to be told that he had been sacked as a result of the incident. Feeling guilty about Brown s predicament Cash sent him a very expensive pair of cowboy boots upon his return to the USA as way of an apology. The boots were so expensive Brown couldn t afford the customs  duty until a sympathetic and inventive Post Office desk manager found a way to charge him the second-hand rate. It was also suggested in Disc that Cash would make a telerecording of a second appearance for use at a later date.
